Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy is the profession that specializes in helping individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. OT's specialize in hand therapy, splinting, ADL training, learning disabilities, and low vision treatment.

Occupational Therapists' education and training are similar to Physical Therapists, however, there are some differences, which includes specializing in the treatment of Upper Extremity disorders and injuries as well as cognitive and learning disorders.

Our Occupational Therapist is experienced in the evaluation and treatment of patients from pediatric to elderly populations that present with diagnoses that include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Overuse injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, or hand (sprains, strains, tendonitis, etc.).
  • Upper Extremity fractures.
  • Upper Extremity weakness due to stroke or nerve injury.
  • Upper Extremity splinting for fractures, carpal tunnel syndrome, surgery, and positioning.
  • Activities of Daily Living training such as meal preparation and self-care skills.
  • Use of adaptive equipment to improve independence with daily activities.
  • Pediatrics: developmental delays, sensory integration, fine motor dysfunction.

Treatment options include:

  • Modalities: heat, cold, electrical stimulation.
  • Exercises for range of motion, strength, and flexibility.
  • Manual treatment including massage and mobilization.
  • Splinting.
  • ADL training and education.
  • Adaptive techniques and equipment for Low Vision deficits.
